KIND-HEARTED

What kind of heart did you give last Valentine's Day? 

I made three (3) kinds of heart from materials that are readily available in our home. I used 3 different colors of fabric (red, blue, and gold), thread and needle for hand sewing, ribbon, big black beads for eyes, small beads for lip.

 First, I cut 2 heart shapes from fabric (widest width is 4 inches) and sew them together leaving a small opening where I inserted the fiber fill. I also placed a ribbon so it could be hanged. Next, I glued the eyes. Then, threaded the lip. But of course, I don't want to end there; I also embellished using a blue bow for the red heart, a small red cap for the blue one, and beads and wire to form a small tiara for my gold heart. I sew the ribbon and the cap; and the tiara, I strung beads in the wire.

This is the final outcome:

Romantic Heart

(The color red symbolizes romantic love; and the ribbon makes the heart sweet. The bow is blue but it appeared green in the photo; it's a two-tone fabric, actually)

Unconditional Heart

(Blue symbolizes unconditional love like a parent's love to his/her child. I chose to put a cap on it because like caps, parents protect their children)

Treasured Heart

(Gold is treasure; and the tiara makes the heart a royalty.) 

Some uses of the hearts

My daughter likes the blue heart.

My original plan was to give these hearts to friends but my daughter took them and hid them somewhere. Valentine's day had passed but until now I am heart hunting. Where are they, Orange?

HEART ATTRACT

Do you remember this heart art from grade school? A classmate in second grade taught me how to make these hearts when we were asked to make Valentine cards. My 3-year old daughter also enjoys making them.

MATERIALS:

• cardboard
• crayons
• scissor

PROCEDURE:

1. Cut heart shapes of different sizes from cardboard.

2. Color hearts.

3. To put heart art on card, place heart cut-out on your card and wipe or scratch its edges towards the card using the tip or pad of your fingers.

After learning this art, I tried to put a twist on it. I made different colors, and my favorite rainbow heart. I literally overused this art when I was a kid; I had Heart Attract ! LOL.

Brings back childhood memories. =)

RING A HEART

It's February; and I'm feeling heartsy craftsy this month. I saw this small piece of glittery red fabric lying on my mom's cutting table yesterday then I suddenly thought of making something out of it for Valentine; something that could be made in one sitting. So, I came up with this:

MATERIALS:

• glittery red fabric
• garter thread or ordinary thread
• beads
• fiber fill
• pelon
• glue

PROCEDURE:

1. Cut two small heart shapes from the red glittery fabric. Sew together leaving a small opening.

2.  Through the small opening, insert fiber fill. Sew to close.

3. Cut a small circle from the pelon. (See size below)

4. Knot thread on one point of the pelon's circumference then string beads onto the thread according to the size of your finger. Afterwards, knot the string again on the side parallel to the first knot.

5. Glue heart on the pelon. 

6. Lastly, wear it! =)
